Sending specimens

Home

First freeze the specimen for a couple of days.
Wrap the carcass in several sheets of newspaper and seal in four or five bin liners. This will prevent moisture seeping out of the parcel. Use cedar wood shavings if you wish to absorb moisture.  (Please note that if it is a large specimen it may be wise to get some of the meat off yourself to make it lighter before you freeze it)
Place into a sturdy box and pack well with newspaper and polystyrene. Ensure that the specimen won't move and get damaged during transit. Send as soon as its packed to ensure it stays frozen for as long as possible. Please use overnight *Special Delivery* but let me know before you send so as I know to be here to collect the parcel. Mark the parcel up as "Perishable".
Also include a list of what species are in the package and who you are on a sheet of paper inside the box. This way no specimen will be overlooked or discarded.
Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure that your specimen arrives as quickly and safely as possible.
Of course, it would be better to deliver your specimen personally to avoid any concerns about postage. I would recommend personal delivery for anything sentimental such as pets. (Note. I will not skin mount Cats and Dogs but I will mount the skeletons. Small mammals, birds, fish and reptiles can be mounted)

Please get in touch for my address.

Thanks.

Please ensure that the specimen is in good condition. Road kill will often have broken bones. Also ensure that the specimen is as fresh as possible. My beetles and I prefer not to work on rotten carcasses.
